Born in Southampton about 1798. Arthur listed his occupation in the trade books as an instructor and schoolmaster in the census reports. To date no records can be found of him having taught at the Durham College or the local BlueCoat schools on Claypath street. About 1820 he married his first wife Catherine. An infant Webb was buried in St. Giles cemetery in 1824 whom we believe to be related. Daughter Mary Ann Webb was also born of this union. Catherine died in 1826, also buried at St. Giles. In 1839, Arthur along with his teenage daughter Mary Ann set sail to America and arrived in Boston. They settled in the area of Augusta, Maine where he met Almira Jones. They married in February, 1839 and their son William Arthur Webb was born in 1841. William appears to have died in infancy in America or on their return voyage to England around 1843. Their son Arthur Webb was born in Durham, England in 1844, followed by their daughter Eva in 1847, and an infant son that died named Frederick.

About 1843 the family immigrated back to England, settling once again in Arthur's home on Claypath street. Arthur had a stroke in 1848 which partially paralyzed him and he died in 1852 with complication due to such. He was well respected in the community.

Most of the gravestones at St. Giles have been removed, though some remain. No records of his plot location or map of where he was buried can be found.
