Daughter of Reuben "Tom" Lawless and Anna Jane (Rhoads) Lawless of Big Horn, Treasure, Montana. The Lawless family homesteaded in eastern Montana at the turn of the century, moving from Agency, Buchanan, Missouri. Oleta married William Chillis "Chill" Gambill (1895-1961) in Montana in 1925. Chill's family came to Montana from Eastern Kentucky. In the 1960's, widowed Oleta moved to Oregon to be closer to family. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. Two of her sons also rest in the Roseburg Memorial Gardens,- Bill and Don.
