Conard K. Allen, 78, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Conard was born August 26, 1928 in Mount Vernon to Ralph and Annie (Kerr) Allen. He served with the U.S. Army in Austria in 1950 to 1952, then returned to Mount Vernon where he spent the rest of his lifetime. Conard retired from the Knox Co. Dept. of Highways after 37 years of faithful service. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Scott) Allen, whom he married April 15, 2003; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Janet Allen of Roscoe, Ill., Fred and Jane Allen of Fredericktown, and Henry and Carmen Allen of Mount Vernon; 4 grandchildren, Robert Allen, Kristi Allen, Miles Allen and Daniel Allen; 2 great-grandsons, Tyler Allen and Jonathan Allen and his nephew, Alan Pisano of Boston, Mass. Besides his parents, Conard was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Allen and his sister, Irene Pisano. Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, where funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. Burial, with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in at Mound View Cemetery.
