Frank Anthony Gornik, 14, a native of Orange County, Va., and Poquoson resident the past five years, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009.
Frank loved youth basketball, soccer, and football, playing two years in Youth football and two years on the Poquoson High School JV team. He worked with Thomas on all his Special Olympic sports. He was an Honor Roll Student throughout his schooling, and received the Poquoson Middle School 8th grade Outstanding Male of the Year Award. Frank loved cars (and knew all about them); the Rockahock campground; the group at KIDZ'N GRIEF; his cell phone (and everyone else's); his three dogs, Bones, Tango and Cash; and more than anything, all his family and friends (especially his Aunt Corrina). He was a true "People Pleaser".
Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Tammara S. Berry; father, Steven W. Gornik Sr.; paternal grandfather, Frank L. Gornik Sr.; and paternal uncle, Frank L. Gornik Jr.
He is survived by his brother, Steven W. Gornik; sister, Falan E. Gornik; aunt and uncle, Corrina R. Bunch and Robert L. Strickland Jr.; extended brothers and sisters, Ashli R. Bunch, Bittani F. Bunch, Robert L. Strickland III, and Thomas G. Strickland; paternal grandmother, Bette Rae Hale; maternal grandmother, Shelby McElroy; maternal grandfather, Cluster Berry; paternal aunts and uncles, Mike and Mia Gornik, Billy and Jamie Leidigh, Greg Gutshall, and Cery and Bruce Logeman; maternal aunts and uncles, Matthew and Liz Berry, Tony and Teresa Berry, Anthony and Wanda Berry, Gina and Steve Haney, Ginger and Ricky Williams, Wanda Chiles, and Arlene and Carlton Atkins; numerous cousins; and special extended family, Tina Green and family; and KIDZ'N GRIEF.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the "Frank Gornik Memorial Fund" to benefit Steven and Falan Gornik.
