Mary L. Smith, age 84, of Faribault, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the District One Hospital in Faribault.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Parish prayers will be held on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Mary Loretta Smith, the daughter of John and Anna (Dudley) Smith, was born on March 2, 1925, at her family home in Shieldsville. She graduated from Bethlehem Academy with the class of 1943 and attended teachers college in Mankato. She taught country school for two years in rural Kilkenny across from her family's home. Mary then worked for Montgomery Ward and Voegel's Dairy before working at the State Bank of Faribault as a teller for 27 years. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Divine Mercy CCW. Mary volunteered her time at church for mission sewing and money counting.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jerry Smith, Joanna Angell, Dianne Roemhildt, Dan Smith, Mary Jo Meyer, Colleen Smith, Terri Ann Smith, Judy Berge, Dan Hagerty, Peggy Christensen, Jim Hagerty, Maureen Bongers, Pat Hagerty, Bill Hagerty, John Hagerty and Tim Hagerty; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Hagerty and Rita Smith; brother, Joseph Smith; sister-in-law, Joyce Smith Kaderlik; brother-in-law, William Hagerty; two nephews, Pat Smith and Larry Hagerty; and two nieces, Laurie Smith and Mary Jane Hagerty.
