Martha Greene was born in Yorkshire, England, June 23, 1827. She came to America when three years of age and resided in PA until her marriage to Julian Dechenne, a native of France, in 1848. The couple then removed to Southern Illinois where they resided until 1890. The husband passed away in 1887 and in 1890 the widow came to WA with her family settling in this vicinity and she has resided here and near here since. Eleven children were born to the union, seven of whom survive. They are Adolph of Hillyard, Lester of Sprague, Mrs John Brown of Heppner, OR, Mrs Henry Schneider of Spokane, Albert of Medical Lake, Emil of Sprague and Walter of Edwall. She was one of the oldest persons living in this vicinity and was known to many in Sprague having resided here with her sons a good share of the time in recent years.

Mrs. Martha Dechenne, mother of the Dechenne boys of this vicinity, died in Spokane at the home of her daughter, aged 90 years 11 months and 9 days. Funeral services were held in Spokane burial in the Edwall Cemetery. ref: Sprague Advocate 7 Jun 1918
