Caroline Sophia Clutz was born August 8, 1838, in Cumberland Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Buffington Clutz. On November 20, 1855, in Hanover, Adams County, Pennsylvania, she married Albert Sylvester Valentine, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Martin Valentine. [One record indicates they were married in Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland. See below.] They were the parents of 2 sons: Martin Eli Clutz Valentine and Samuel Edwin Valentine. After Albert's untimely death in 1860, Caroline later remarried Lewis P. Shriver. She passed away on November 27, 1884, in Barlow, Mt. Joy Township, Adams County, and was buried in the Mt. Joy Lutheran Cemetery.
