Martha J. Biven, daughter of G. W. and Mary E. Biven was born in Davis county, Iowa, March 12, 1854, and departed this life at the home of her son near Lancaster in Schuyler Co., Mo., December 5, 1932, at the age of 78 years, eight months and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to George Coshow November 3, 1872. To this union six children, Mary Elen, who preceded her mother a short time in death; John W., residing in Schuyler Co., Mo.; William B. and Bertha Ellen, deceased; Ollie H. living near Knowles, Okla., and Lewis Clinton, whereabouts unknown
In 1892, Mr. and Mrs. Coshow came west and took a claim in No Man's Land, now known as Beaver County, Oklahoma, making this their home ever since. In those early days antelope and deer were still running wild in this country.
Grandma Coshow, as she was familiarly known, was a friend to the poor, the sick, and the needy.
She was one of those sturdy Christian pioneer mothers. To know her was to love her. She and her husband organized a Sunday School in a little sod school house in Garland township, 40 years ago. She, herself serving as superintendent. Was a member of the Methodist church, but will be long remembered as a faithful attendant at the Excelsior Union Sunday School. To this community this good saint of God will be remembered as a true friend and helper.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her aged husband, two sons, sixteen grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
