John Newton Aldridge Jr.was born May 13, 1841, in Lawrence County, the third of seven children to John Newton Aldridge Sr. and Mary Alexander Aldridge. He enlisted as a state guard in May 1861, and as a home guard in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Following the Lexington fight in Missouri, he re-enlisted as a private in the spring of 1862. He married Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Fitzgerald on March 5, 1868. He died Oct. 18, 1924, and is buried in Alexander Cemeter.
