Watseka Long time Resident Dies This Evening
One of Sheldon's oldest citizens, Stillman Slack Sowders, passed quietly away this Thursday evening, May 20. 1948. He had been in declining health for the past few years but suffered a heart attack Thuesday evening which caused his death at the age of 90 years.
Mr. Sowders was born July 28. 1868 in Dearborn County near Lawrenceburg the last of a family of eight children. He was married to Sarah Elizebeth Good Pasture, Janunary 1, 1885 and to this union seven children were born. Mrs Sonders passed away in 1932.
Sowders came to Sheldon Township in 1903 and engaged in farming. He moved to his present house just east of town in 1917, when he has since resided with his son Jesse, since the death of his wife. His son, Stillman and family have been living with him the last nine years and caring for him.
Mr. Sowders was a member of the Christian church and the Masonic Order, and lived by there teaching. He made many friends and was best known for his honesty.
He leaves to mourn his death seven children. Mrs Pearl Hitz, Mrs Rebecca Wickisser, Jesse, Mrs Ollie Wagoner, and Stillman Jr, all of Sheldon. Mrs Emma Berry of Oakland, CA and Mrs Adeline Jones of Lafayette, IN. also 18 grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren,
Masonic funeral services well be held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., rev, E S Worley will conduct the services assister by Bert Ellis, Burial will be made in Sheldon Cementery
