Elizabeth's husband, Samuel Hamacher, died in 1858. Elizabeth did not long survive. She died in 1862, shortly after the death of a youngest grandson they had reared, who enlisted at 15, against her wish, to be a soldier; and died a drummer boy, of measles at new Albany, Indiana, encampment.
