His first wife was Philinda Wells born in Clarendon, Orleans, New York in 1825.

Aretus married Ann Maria Otis on 4-2-1857 in Ingham Township. He was 32 and she was 15.

However, Ann Maria died in 1933 and is buried on the same plot as Aretus in Fairview. Other family members are also buried there.
