In 1882, when he was 12 years of age, his father, mother, two brothers and two sisters came to America. His father received his naturalization papers in 1862. On November 5, 1867, he was united in marriage to Josephine Mary Novy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vencil (Vaclav) Novy, of Richmond (Washington County) Iowa.
To this union fourteen children were born, five of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Mary Tibbetts, Ravenna; Edward A. Krotz, Kearney; Harry O. Krotz, Pleasanton, Mrs. Bertha C. Hughes, St. Michael; William Joseph Krotrz, Pleasanton; Mrs. Emma L. Razey, Kearney; Mrs. Nora D. Standage, Ravenna; George F. Krotz, Ravenna; and Albie O. Krotz, Ravenna. Besides these children and the beloved wife, he is survived by twenty-five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
The deceased came with his family to the vicinity of Ravenna and Pleasanton in the year 1890 and a good part of that time was on a farm of their own south of the Loup River in Section 6 of Cedar Township. When no longer able to work, Mr. Krotz sold the farm and moved to Pleasanton. Thus another one of our old settlers has fallen.
The services were held in the United Brethren church at Pleasanton, Monday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. L. E. Stickler officiating. Interment was in the Pleasanton cemetery.
