Gideon was the son of Adam Shepherd & Elizabeth Shepherd.
He enlisted in the Confederate army on March, 3, 1862. Mustered in April 30, 1862. Sent to Camp Magnum,Raleigh, NC. Died Aug. 9,1862 in camp @ Weldon,NC. Died of disease. His father Adam, was later paid the sum of $132.93
He served in the 53 Infantry.
