Born Nov. 17, 1926, in Fellowsville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Russell L. and Mary E. Wolfe Bolyard.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Jean Bolyard, on Dec. 16, 1994.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was employed by the Washington County Board of Education, retiring from Smithsburg High School in 1988 after 28 years of service.
He was a member of American Legion Post 211 of Funkstown.
He is survived by one daughter, Debra J. Ritter of Winchester, Va.; three sons, Donald E. Bolyard of Maugansville, Larry D. Bolyard of Hagerstown and Ronnie L. Bolyard of Boonsboro; one brother Kenneth P. Bolyard of West Virginia; and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Laurence Bolyard.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. S. Dwight Morgan will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
