Leo M. Plese, age 74, of Dakota, Illinois died in his home Sunday morning, May 30, 2004 surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on the family farm on August 17, 1929, the son of John J. and Margaret C. (Berta) Plese in Wilmington, Illinois. He attended seminary for two years and later graduated from St. Procopius College in Lisle, Illinois. Leo married Ceil Lois Schmitz of Joliet, Illinois on December 8, 1954 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington.

Leo served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. A pioneer of the computer industry, he successfully ran his own business.

He was an avid fisherman and shared his love of fishing with his children and grandchildren. He coached eighth grade basketball, junior high track and Aquin High School baseball.

DAKOTA -- Leo M. Plese, 74, of Dakota died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at home with his wife and children.

Born on the family farm on August 17, 1929 in Wilmington, he was the son of John J. and Margaret C. (Berta) Plese. Leo went to seminary school for two years before graduating from St. Procopius College in Lisle with a B.A. in philosophy.

He married Ceil Lois Schmitz of Joliet on December 18, 1954 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Afterward, he successfully ran his own business in the computer industry.

Leo was a great fisherman and loved to share his hobby with his children and grandchildren. He coached St. Joseph Catholic school's eighth-grade basketball and junior high track, as well as Aquin High School baseball. He also helped with the Bulldogs football program.

He is survived by his wife, seven children, J. Gregory (Wendy) Plese of Salinas, Cal., Annette (Martin) Janecke of Ridott, Kathleen (Shawn) Eaton of Shabbona, Monica (Joe) Bushinski of Denver, Colo., Leo (Mary) Plese of Lakeville, Minn., Clare (Larry) Gainey of North Aurora and Michael (Laurie) Plese of Aurora; brothers, James and Dean (Judy) Plese, both of Wilmington; four sisters, Lucille (Joe) De Gulie of Coal City, Marilyn Tyler of Elwood, Madonna (John) Orr of Verona and Margaret (Albert) Paoletti of Peoria; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his father in 1973 and his mother in 1985.

The family thanks Leo's caregivers, especially Home Health nurses Shannon Isenberger and Lila Oaks, the Freeport ICU nursing staff and Dr. Christopher Jelinek for their compassion and wonderful care.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home.
