Fred and Harvey both played outfield, Oscar was catcher and Floyd was a pitcher. Floyd and Oscar were exceptionally good, and at some point were approached by a talent scout for the then, Brooklyn Dodgers. Both were offered contracts, but Floyd's wife would not consider him leaving her for the training camps and travels involved. Floyd turned the opportunity down, and Oscar would not go without his brother.
Floyd then got a job as a mechanic at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo and they settled in Hawthorne, California. At some point while employed there, Floyd met the famous Howard Hughes, who took a liking to him. He made it possible for Floyd to have flying lessons, and get a pilot's license. Floyd had a small piper cub airplane.
Floyd and Clarice separated when Glenn was a baby. Clarice left the state, and Floyd took the children and moved back home with his parents. They were divorced about 1946, and Floyd was awarded full custody of his three children. He was a good father, and loved his children fiercely. After his death at the age of 35, his children were raised by his parents and his brothers.
