Salem H. Applegate was dead on arrival Tuesday, December 31, 1968, at Butler County Veterans Administration Hospital, Butler, Pa. He was 71.

He was born in Sharon June 16, 1897, to William A. and Mary A. Reno Applegate. He was a draftsman at General American Transportation Corp. retiring in February 1962.

A veteran of World War I, he was a sergeant in the 3rd Army, Coast Artillery Corps. He was a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge in Sharon.

He and Catherine Rankin were married in 1925.

Two brothers, Harry and Charles Applegate, preceded him in death.
