Allen, Mr. Lindsay Anderson, Sr., age 91, of Florence, died on Sunday, July 11, 1999. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Elkins Chapel on Hermitage Drive in Florence. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, with Harold Young and David Hartsell officiating. Elkins Funeral Home Florence, will be directing. Mr. Allen was a native of Winston County, a lifelong resident of North Alabama and Mississippi. He was widely known as a gospel preacher with the Church of Christ, taught science and history at Cherokee and Lexington High Schools, Hazelwood High School in Town Creek, and Central High School in Lauderdale County, and was a member of the Alabama Education Association and the Alabama Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Allen was married for 59 years to the former Ruby Denton, who passed away in 1992. In 1994, he married the former Leva Behel, who died in 1998. He is survived by: two sons, Lindsay, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, and Tom of Pelham, AL; one daughter, Mary, of Santa Monica, CA; 14 grandchildren. A third son, Jim, died in 1996. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Fulmer, Glenn McGee, Leon Graham, Richard and Jerilyn Kelley, Robert Roach, James Beavers, Jerrel and Elmyra Howell, Manson and Wyna Behel, Marianne Knight, Kemper and Martha McDowell. Brother Allen was born at Lynn, Winston County, Ala., September 5, 1907. He entered the public schools of Russellville, Ala., in 1916, completing the high-school courses there in 1925. He is a graduate of David Lipscomb and Harding College, finishing the latter place in 1929. He has also done graduate work in the Universities of Alabama and Ohio. He has taught seven years in the high schools of Alabama, Ohio. He has taught one year as principal. Brother Allen began preaching in 1932. He has preached monthly and conducted meetings in north Alabama. Tennessee, and Mississippi. He has worked regularly with churches in Athens, Ohio, and Hamilton, Ala. He came to Decatur, Ala., to work with Grant Street Church in 1937. Brother Allen is married and has two children. He became a Christian, under the preaching of C. R.
