OBITUARY: Walter Eugene Lippard (1888-1961)
WALTER EUGENE LIPPARD
Walter Eugene Lippard, retired Justice of the Peace, and Merchant of Callao, Virginia, died early morning, Wednesday, August 9, 1961 in Patrick Henry Hospital, Denbigh, Virginia. He is the son of the late Joseph [Jonas] Lippard and Margaret Kennerly Lippard of Cleveland, North Carolina. He was a member of Latimer Memorial Methodist Church, Belton, South Carolina, a member and Past Master of Heathsville, Virginia Lodge no.109 AF&AM [Ancient Free & Accepted Masons]. In previous years, he was an auditor and accountant in North Carolina, then in 1934 he began work for the United States government in the Adjusted Service Bonds Division, working there for five years, when he was transferred to the General Accounting Office, where he worked for ten years. Later, he was bookkeeper for the Belton News, Belton, South Carolina, and 1951 to 1953 was bookkeeper for the Arlington Yellow Cab company. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bland Coward Lippard; two daughters, Mrs. Robert [Drusilla] Maley of Springfield, Virginia and Mrs. Albert P. [Lucy] Randall of Orlando, Florida; two sons, Eugene J. and John F. Lippard, of Indianapolis, Indiana; two stepsons, James E. Harper of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Norman G. Harper of Pasadena, Texas; one sister, Miss Emma Lippard of Charlotte, North Carolina, one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Blackstone, Virginia; one brother, Floyd Lippard of California; one half-brother, John Lippard of Cleveland, NC; eleven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 10th at Gibeon Baptist Church, Village, Virginia, the Rev. Edmund G. Holzbach officiating. Masonic rites were held at the graveside in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Cundiff Simmons, Braxton Dawson, Howard Nash, Clarence Jewell, Leonard Headley and John Spring. Honorary pallbearers were E.J. Deitz, T.A. Williams, Reece Hall, and the Mens Bible Class of Gibeon Church.
