Obituary -- Beckman

Arthur John Beckman was born November 25, 1886, to Wilhelm and Christine (nee Riensche) Beckman in Phillips county, Kans. Ten days later he was received into the church of the redeemed through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. As a child he was instructed in the Christian Faith. In April, 1900, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church, holding membership in Zion's congregation since its organization unto his end.

On December 14, 1910, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Margaret Fritsch. To this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter.

With two major exceptions, he enjoyed good health all his life. About six weeks ago it became apparent that he was failing rapidly. On April 10, he entered Bryan Memorial hospital at Lincoln, Nebr. and on the 16th underwent an operation. It was found that he had developed lympho-sarcoma. He continued to decline, departing this life Monday, April 21, at 1:15 a.m., having reached the age of 60 years, four months and 27 days.

Those left to feel his loss are: his wife, Mrs. Margaret Beckman; two sons, Emil of Davenport, Ia, and Harold, a lieutenant in the air corps in Japan; one daughter, Mrs. Esther Merklein of Phillipsburg: four brothers, William of Sterling, Neb., Godfred of Orange, Calif., Herman and Karl of Phillipsburg; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Meyer of Phillipsburg, Mrs. Anna Leseberg of Sterling, Colo. Mrs. Martha White of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Hilda Lucas of Stratton, Colo.; one grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.

He was a successful farmer ??????????????????????????????? as a faithful church member as any congregation could hope to have, serving as chairman of the committee on relocation, a project which he saw completed, but did not live to take part in its rededication services.

God grant him peace.
