Enlisted at the age of 18 with the 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment Pennsylvania, but was afterwards transferred to Co. A., 12th Provisional Infantry. He was in a number of important battles and was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness. His death resulted from consumption contracted while in the Army.
