Kyle Edwin Winters, age 38, of Kearney, MO, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at his home following a 23 1/2 month battle with cancer.
He was born January 22, 1964, in Keokuk, IA, a son of Kenneth and Patricia Riney Winters.
He and Lori Nichols were united in marriage at the Shrine of St. Patrick on November 5, 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Lori, of Kearney, MO; one son, Trey Matthew Winters; and a daughter, Kylin Veronica Winters, both of the family home; his parents, Kenneth and Patricia Winters of Canton; grandmother, Wilma Walls of Kahoka; father and mother-in-law Leo & Catherine Maxine Nichols of Canton; three brothers, Darrell and his wife, Debbie, of Canton; Kevin and his wife, Loretta, of Kahoka, and Kurt and his wife, Deanna, of Spring Hill, KS; two sisters, Kim and Chad Winters of Canton and Kelly and Todd Campbell of Kahoka; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patrick Nichols of Canton, John & Pat Nichols of Godfrey, IL, Carol & Earl Huston of Canton, Margie & Steve Lynn of Ewing, Julie Clark of Quincy, and Jeanne and Rod Leighty of Carthage; aunts & uncles, Mary Stevens of Kahoka, Bill & Emmajean Riney of Ashland, MO, Ed & Tammy Riney of Revere, Sandra Ewart of Alexandria, and Howard and Dorothy Winters of Port Angeles, WA; also nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George "Fuzzy" Winters, and Russell and Cecelia Riney; step-grandmother, Margaret Winters; and uncles, Asa Stevens and Joseph "Ab" Ewart.
Kyle was raised in Clark County, graduating from Clark County R-1 High School in 1982 and later from Culver-Stockton College.
Following graduation, Kyle worked for both Lewis & Clark Counties as Sanitarian Prior to taking a position with the Environmental Protection Agency in Lincoln, NE. He transferred to the Kansas City area in 1993 as an Environmental Specialist and was able to continue his work until this past week.
Kyle was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church in Wayland and had been attending the Church of the Annunciation in Kearney. He was an avid Jeff Gordon and Nascar race fan and faithfully watched them every week on television. He had a love for life and enjoyed teasing people and making them laugh. He was an antique collector and loved working on computers. Family meant everything to him and his time spent with his wife and children was very special. He will be dearly missed by all.
A mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, April 26, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, MO, with Father David Cox officiating. Mrs. Ida Ross was organist with Mrs. Jennifer Frazee soloist, who sang "Surely the Presence" , and "Daddy's Hands". Tape Selections were, " Holes in the Floor of Heaven", "If You Could See Me Now", and "Angels in Waiting".
Honorary Pallbearers were: Darrell Winters, Kevin Winters, Kurt Winters, Todd Campbell, Chad Winters, Russell Riney, Stanley Stevens, and Steve Huff.
Pallbearers were: Shay Winters, Doug Florea, Randy Ewart, John Nichols, Mike Huston, and Stephen Huston.
Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery.
