Gertrude Crowell Taylor, age 82, a native of Sabine Town, Texas and a resident of Dequincy, La., died Monday, November 16, 2009, at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur, La. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church for over 22 years and was well known for her service in the kitchen. Gertrude, along with her husband Tom were the owners of "Joe's Cafe" for over 20 years. She was famous for her "Sale Barn Burgers" that she prepared for over 11 years. Her family will forever treasure the memories of her chicken and dumplings and coconut cake. Gertrude loved shopping and gardening. She loved children and was a giver of herself to those that needed her. Gertrude lived her Christian life by example and loved her Lord with all her heart.
She was the daughter of the late Albert Crowell and the late Lula Lord Crowell.

She is survived by her

One Son, Son-Larry Glover and his wife Francis of Saint Martinville, La.

One Brother, Brother-Tom Crowell and his fiancé - Phyllis Parks of Hemphill, Texas

One Brother - In - Law , Charles Taylor and his wife Jaynette of DeQunicy, La.

Two Sisters - In - Law, Joy Young and her husband Dr. William "Bill" of DeQuincy, La. Norma Henagan and her husband John D. of DeQuincy, La.

One grandchild Michael Glover and his wife Lisa of Belcher, La.

Four great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of over 56 years - Tom Taylor, 2 Brothers - Henry Lee Crowell and J.E. Crowell, 2 Sisters - Evas Smith and Lois Overcamp.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2009 and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday November 18, 2009 Christensen Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Christensen Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 18, 2009 with the Rev. Jerry Crise officiating. Interment will be at Hyatt Cemetery in Fields, La.

In lieu of flowers donations to be directed to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home.
