Miss Bessie May Ross, 42, of 1016 High St., died at 10 a.m. yesterday in Waynesboro Community Hospital, after 31 years of muscular dystrophy.
She was born in Albermarle County, Dec. 15, 1931, a daughter of Mrs. Mabel Hutchinson Ross of Waynesboro and the late Arthur D. Ross.
She was a member of the Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church.
Besides her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Page N. Ross, Paul M. Ross and Jack A. Ross; three sisters, Mrs. Curtis (Ruth) Conner, Mrs. Raymond (Dorothy) Bright and Miss Blenda D. Ross, all of Waynesboro; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Katy Hutchinson of Crozet; a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. B. C. Akers and assisted by the Rev. Scott C. Hutton and the Rev. Dee C. Flory, with burial in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be A. D. Berry, Jerry Beard, Sylvester Bosserman, Roger Roberts, Jack Plummer and Buddy Padgett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Combs, Dr. B. K. Weems, Charles Dudley and the junior and senior members of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
