Belva was born in Riverdale, Weber, Utah April 5, 1927. Her parents were Albert Marx & Sallie Viana Denson Payne. She was the ninth child of eleven and the fifth girl. At the age of one the family moved to 852 Canyon Road, Ogden, Weber, Utah. The home had 8 1/2 acres of fruit trees. As soon as each child was old enough, about 6 or 7, her dad would take each of them out to the field and teach them how to pick strawberries or raspberries. The fruit on the farm was her parents way of making a living.
Belva and her sister Myrtle were very close and they loved to play tricks on their brothers.
They always picked cherries on the 4th of July because that is when they were ready for the cannery. Her mother would make a big churn full of lemonade. If they picked so many boxes of cherries they were allowed to go to the parade.
At the age of 15 Belva got her first job at the "Barrel". It was an ice cream shop. She was a car hop after school and on the week ends. She also worked at "Kresses Five and Dime Store". Later on she worked in J.C. Penny's and then retired from the IRS after 20 years service.
She met and married Delwin L. Thompson in Ogden, Weber, Utah on November 28, 1945. That marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Logan, Utah Temple.
Belva and Delwin had 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys, Sheryn, Carolyn, Darrel, LuAnn, David, and Wayne.
They lived in Roy, Weber, Utah for almost 50 years. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were they served in many church positions.
Belva enjoyed quilting and crafting and decorating her home. She was a good cook. Her specialty was home made bread, rolls and pies.
