James W. Cook

James William Cook, 67, of Shenandoah, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Cook was born Feb. 3, 1941, in Rockingham County, and was a son of the late William Cody and Lucy Dotson Cook.

He attended schools in Elkton and Luray. He lived in Page County most of his life and had lived in Williamsburg for a brief time. He was a chef at Luray Caverns for 20 years and later worked for White Oak Baskets in Luray. He was a member of the New Life Gospel Church in Shenandoah.

On March 3, 1961, he married Shirley Sours, who survives.

He is also survived by four daughters, Pam Sharp and Robin Thomas, both of Luray, and Jackie McCoy and Amanda Miranda, both of Stanley; a brother, David Cook of Luray; a sister, Elizabeth "Cookie" McCoy of Stanley; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Harold Kephart and Lonnie Shifflett conducted the funeral Saturday at the New Life Gospel Church in Shenandoah. Burial followed at Mount Zion Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday at the church. Friends may also call at the Cook residence at any time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with expenses.

Arrangements were by the Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah.
