Howard Vernon Thomas, 9th of 10 children born to Samuel Jasper Thomas and Edmona Myers Thomas. Born Nov 24 1896 and died of "flux" on July 16 1898 at the age of 19 mo 22 days) at the family home located 4 miles west of Ellinwood KS in Lakin Township. He is buried next to his brother John Harold Thomas in Section 1 Block 5 Lot 30. The Thomas Family later moved to Stafford County and his parents are buried at the Stafford Cemetery. Stone reads "Howard R"...but the Death notice in the Great Bend Register Page 1 under "Other County News' on Saturday July 23 1898 notes "Little Howard Vernon" and this is the name that is noted in the Thomas/Salmans Bible also.
