Augusta Smith Russell, 101 of Gorin, MO, died June 27, 2006 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA.

The daughter of Bertie Trotter and Walter Price Smith, Augusta was born May 4, 1905 west of Gorin, MO. She married Stanley Russell on December 27, 1925. Stanley died on May 1, 1988. They had one son, Stan Jr., born May 1, 1927. He died December 4, 1991.

Stanley and Augusta observed their 50th wedding anniversary in 1975 and their 62nd in 1987. Augusta lived all of her married life in Gorin, having lived in the same home from 1929 until 2004, at which time she moved to Polk City, IA to live with her granddaughter Dorla Secrest and family.

She graduated from Gorin High School in 1924 and was a member of the Gorin Methodist Church since 1924. She and her husband, Stanley, owned and operated the Russell Produce in Gorin for forty years, from 1938 until 1978.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, her son, her three sisters, Marie Power, Geneva Rowe, and Una Thurlo, and three brothers, Dale, Homer and Wayne Smith.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Margaret Russell, of Des Moines, IA, one brother, Francis L. Smith of Borrego Springs, CA, two grandsons; Ron Russell of Norman, OK, and Richard Russell of Johnston, IA, three granddaughters; Peggy Russell of Des Moines, IA, Jewel Mitchell of St. Louis, MO and Dorla Secrest of Polk City, IA, six great-grandsons; Ronald, Tyler, Brett, Brandon, Ryan and Aaron, three great-great grandchildren, Skye, Conner and Ethan; six step great-grandchildren, nine step great-great-grandchildren and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held July 1, 2006 at the Payne Funeral Home in Memphis, MO, with burial at the Gorin Cemetary in Gorin, MO. In lieu of floral remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the Gorin Methodist Church, Gorin, MO.
