William S. Tomes, age 70, well known farmer residing 3 1/2 miles southeast of Milroy, died Sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock at the Major hospital in Shelbyville, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.

The deceased was the son of Joseph and India Hilligoss Tomes. He is survived by the widow, three daughters and three sons, who are Mrs. Dewease Beckner of Rushville, a daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. Wendell Brown of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Floyd Roberts of Gowdy, Blunt Tomes of near Milroy and Kennard and Robert, at home. He is also survived by a brother, E. M. Tomes of Elwood, seven grandchildren also are among the survivors.

Mr. Tomes was a member of the Milroy Christian church and the Homer Odd Fellow lodge.

Rites will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the late residence in charge of the Rev. P. C. Sommerville of Bloomington, Ill, assisted by the Rev. Albert Mitchell of Milroy. Interment will be in Hurst cemetery, near Homer.

Friends may call any time at the late residence.
