William A. "Bill" Fuchs, Jr. served his country in the United States Marine Corp, Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines.

While conducting a search and destroy operation on the Phu Thu Peninsula in Thua Thien, Vietnam, Fox Company 2/1 encountered a Viet Cong Main Force battalion and a bitter fight ensued. Fourteen Marines from Fox 2/1, including Pfc William A. Fuchs, Jr., lost their lives before Golf 2/1 and ARVN forces flanked the VC and forced them to scatter and retreat. One Marine from Golf 2/1 was killed in the action as well.
