Harry was the son of George Emery Tannahill and Bessie May Claywell.

Tragedy struck the family on 19 Aug 1930 when Harry's 19-year-old brother, William, was playing baseball that day at O'Fallon Park in St. Louis for his employer's team. He was at bat when he was struck in the head by a pitched ball and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, where he died of a fractured skull shortly before noon the following morning.

Harry married Nellie Katherine Douglas on 01 Aug 1938 in Clayton, St. Louis County, Missouri. They were the parents of 3 children and lived in Pine Lawn, Missouri.

He worked as a paper man for a newspaper sales company by 1940. He later took a job as a spot welder for an automobile manufacturing company and was a member of U.A.W. Local No. 325. He also belonged to Valley Park Lodge No. 629 A.F. & A. M.

At the time of his death, Harry was 59 years, 1 month and 26 days old.

He was survived by his wife; 1 son; 2 daughters; his grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Harry was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on the morning of 07 Jan1976 at Baumann's Colonial Chapel on Woodson Road in Overland, St. Louis County, Missouri. Masonic services took place there at 8 p.m. the previous evening.
