Lawrence helped build the Bell Telephone building in St. Louis, Missouri when he was a young man. His job was to rivet steel. He later worked for Fischer Body and General Motors, before taking a job as a molder in a steel foundry in Granite City, Madison County, Illinois.
In his later years, Lawrence worked in an upholstery shop with his brother, Roland Henry Russnogle. Lawrence retired in 1969.
Lawrence was an evangelist in the St. Louis County, Missouri area. He helped found several Baptist churches in and around Maryland Heights.
At the time of his death, Lawrence was 71 years, 6 months and 9 days old. He was survived by his wife, Vica, who passed away in 1997 and was buried next to him.
