William Conrad Oster Jr. William Conrad Oster, Jr., husband of Barbara Jean Boughton Oster of Brookfield, died on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Danbury Hospital after a long illness, Mr. Oster was born in Stamford, November 20, 1930, son of the late William Conrad Oster and Christine Bunda Jensen Oster. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1948. A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he attended the University of Connecticut, School of Engineering under the GI Bill. Mr. Oster worked for various companies as a senior designer, both directly and as a consultant. He enjoyed his work and the people with whom he worked. He retired from Philips Medical Systems, NA, as a project engineer in 1988. He later worked at Perkin Elmer and various offshoots of that company as a consultant. He held three patents. Mr. Oster enjoyed bowl-ing, sailing, and motor-cycling for many years. He was a member of the American Motorcyclist Association as well as a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for more than 59 years. A life member of Puritan Lodge #43 in Stamford, he was also a member of Devotion Encampment #5 in New Milford. Mr. Oster was very active with the Connecticut Eye Bank and Visual Research Foundation for forty years. He served on its board as well as drove over thirty thousand miles for the Eye Bank, transporting eye tissue to hospitals throughout Connecticut as well as into New York City. He was also an active Life Corporator of the Odd Fellows Home, Fairview, in Groton. In addition to his beloved wife of 28 years, he is survived by his son, William Conrad Oster, III, and his daughter, Meghan Christine Oster, both of Brookfield. Mr. Oster is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Lorraine Oster Curry of Stamford and Doris Elaine Oster Ziurella of Newport, R.I.; as well as a niece and two nephews and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Episcopal Church, Bridgewater at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009. Mr. Oster will be cremated. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Mr. Oster's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to his physician, Dr. Cohenuram, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff of 11 East at Danbury Hospital for their generous care and support. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to St. Mark's General Fund, 5 Main Street South, P.O. Box 143, Bridgewater CT 06752. Green Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
