OBITUARY
Mrs. Ophelia Jones Watson Blanchard, 72, member of a prominent McDuffie County family, entered into rest at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 1936, at her residence in Thomson, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at S.A. Blanchard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.D. Matheson officiating. Interment will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery. Mrs. Blanchard had led a quiet life in her community but took a devout interest in her church and missionary work. She had been a member of Thomson Baptist Church for about 50 years and during that time had been active in its development. She was held in high regard by her neighbors and her fine Christian character and lovely disposition had gained her many friends. Her life had been spent serving others, and in her death the community has lost a true Christian worker, a kindly neighbor and genial friend. She had married twice. Her first husband was Julian C. Watson, brother of the late Thomas E. Watson, famous Georgia statesman. After his death, she married P.H. Blanchard, who died some time ago. Survivors include one son, Maddox J. Watson, Thomson; three daughters, Mrs. Sarah Conner, Orlando, Florida, Mrs. William Ford, Augusta, and Mrs. H.G. Kenney, McMinnville, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Howell and Mrs. Joel Holliman, both of Augusta; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
