OBITUARY
Walter C. Anders, son of John and Nannie Anders, was born Oct 16th 1892 at Pocahontas, Va. and departed this life Jan 25, 1939 age 46 years, 3 months, 8 days. He lived in Virginia during his boyhood days until he was 15 years old, when he went to South Dakota and lived until he returned to Virginia as a young man. There he met and married Lula Shupe Aug 3, 1912. To this union were born five children, three of whom are living. A boy and girl died in infancy.
Mr. Anders spent most of married life in Indiana, coming to this state just after his marriage in 1912, and moving to their present home in 1931 which he bought where he had lived and enjoyed since that time.
Finding work at the mines he spent most of his working hours bein a coal loader and machine operator in the mines. He was employed by the Peabody Coal Co. at mine 48 when he was hurt the 5th of last April and did not see a well day afterwards, although he recovered sufficientyly from his injury that he went back to work. Suffering much of the time he went to the Sullivan hospital in August where he went through two operations, the shock of which was severe and the suffering intense. The affliction was of such a nature though he had a lot of strength and vitality he could not overcome the disease. He fought courageously to the last to get well. Doctors and surgeons and faithful nursing assisted him in his effort to get well, but the affliction was of such a character no one could give him permanent relief.
It was during his illness that he made a definite and personal confession of Christ as his Savior and expressed often to his loved ones and minister the witness of his faith, and his readiness to go meet his Lord. Though before he confessed Christ he was a good husband, a good father, and a good neighbor and friend, and rendered a service to many in good deeds; which are not to be forgotten. He was a likable fellow and made friends easily. He had many friends and this was proven by the many callers during his illness.
He leaves to mourn a loving wife; three boys, Howard, Clifford and Gail; two grandchildren; five brothers, Carl, Roy and Elbert Anders of Marcus, S. Dak., Mack Anders of Virginia, and a half brother, John also of Virginia; two sisters, Lucy of West Virginia, and Hattie, who stayed with him during his illness; two half sisters, also of Virginia and a number of relatives and friends.
Jesus while our hearts are bleeding
O'er the spoils that death has won,
We would at this solemn meeting Calmly say, "Thy will be done."
By the hands the boon was given,
Thou hast taken but thine own;
Lord of earth and God of heaven,
Evermore "Thy will be done."
