The community was shocked Saturday morning to learn of the death of Arthur Welch, which occurred the evening before, about 11 o’clock. His death came suddenly, and was caused by heart trouble. Mr. Welch was 68 years of age and was a soldier in the civil war. He and his family have lived in and near Reading for about twenty years and he was held high in the esteem of all who knew him. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church Sunday afternoon, by Rev. J.C. Gordon, assisted by Rev. Bration and Rev. Shoemaker. Many beautiful flowers were laid upon the casket, and the alter rail was blanked with ferns and other potted plants. The pallbearers were chosen from the G.A.R. Post, of which he was a member. Mr. Welch leaves a wife, two sons, a daughter and several grandchildren to mourn his loss. The interment was made in the Reading cemetery.
