From his obituary in the Rapid City Journal on Nov 18,1940
Swander had gone in them morning and had attended a bank directors meeting , members of the family said. He became ill after the meeting and went home about 9:30 AM where the fatal attack occurred few minutes later.
Swander came to Rapid City with his parents Mr and Mrs Harry Swander, when he was five years old. He was educated in Rapid City public schools and at the School of Mines.
He worked as a clerk and bookkeeper at the former Reeves Mercantile company here for a number of years. In 1917 he bought out his father's wholesale grocery firm and bakery.
In 1924 the grocery business was disposed of and the bakery firm was incorporated at Swander Baking Company.
He had been a 3rd degree Mason and a member of many civic organizations. During his career he had been county commissioner, president of the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce.
He was married Lois Dale in Des Moines IA on Jun 3, 1906 and a son was born to them on Aug 19, 1912.
