Leonard Otto Kuehn, 91, Carrington, N.D., died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington.
Mr. Kuehn was born Sept. 2, 1918, on the family farm, rural Carrington, the son of William and Sophia (Vollmars) Kuehn. He grew up and attended school in Wyard Township, North Dakota, northwest of Carrington. After he graduated eighth grade he began farming with his parents. He moved to Idaho where he worked in a mine. He moved to Portland, Ore., and worked in a shipyard building ships for the U.S. Navy. He returned to the family farm and began farming. He married Elsie Aleshire in 1955. They lived on the family farm and then moved to a farm southwest of Carrington. They bought a farm near Sykeston, N.D. They later divorced. He moved to Medina, N.D., in the 1980s where he worked seasonal jobs. He moved to Golden Acres Manor. He was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two stepsons, Virgil Aleshire and Dophan Aleshire, both Minnesota; a stepdaughter, Lana Betts, Minnesota; and two sisters, Janice Heringer and Elaine Gussiaas, both Carrington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Ida Mae Senness; two sisters, May Ann Kuehn and Lois Wede; two brothers, Luverne and Donald; three brothers-in-law, Robert Heringer, James Gussiaas and Howard Wede; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Kuehn.
