Martin W. Atwood, 62, of Noble, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009, at his residence.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Olney with Rev. Scott Carlson and Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Memorial Garden in Olney.

Mr. Atwood was born June 1, 1947, in Olney, the son of Loyde W. and Mary Anna (Griggs) Atwood. He married Shirley Wood on June 9, 1968, at First United Methodist Church in Olney. She survives.

He was a farmer and member of First United Methodist Church. Martin was a devoted husband, generous and loving Dad and Grandpa. Things that were important to him included his faith (church and Good News Sunday School class), family, farming, serving on the TrustBank board and recently flying an airplane. He was a very encouraging and supportive man to family and friends and he instilled a strong work ethic with his boys.

Martin had a special passion for farming and felt close to God while working the land. He took great pleasure in landscaping around his home. He graduated from high school in 1965 in Cisne and received his college degree at Southern Illinois University in 1968.

Mr. Atwood is survived by his wife, Shirley Atwood; mother, Mary Anna Griggs; two sons, Troy Atwood and Brian Atwood; brother, Kelly Atwood; and seven grandchildren, Josh Atwood, Justin Atwood, Justin Travis Gill, Noah Martin Atwood, Jordan Atwood, Austin Atwood and Abigail Atwood.

He was preceded in death by his father, Loyde W. Atwood
