Agnes Royal Marsh Downer was born April 8, 1931 in the Woods Community of Panola County, Texas. She was born to James Felton and Nannie Mae Knight Marsh. Agnes was raised in the Woods Community and graduated from Carthage High School. She furthered her education at Panola College and East Texas Baptist College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Agnes married Ray Thomas Downer on in 1951 and together they celebrated over 56 years until he preceded her in death in 2007. Mrs. Downer was a school teacher for over 40 years and retired from Carthage ISD. She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Ethel Cox; and a niece, Llen Brodfuehrer.
