Raphael Luke Ash, a retired farmer from the Cooter area, died September 20 at the Nursing Home in Matthews, Missouri.
Mr. Ash was born in Pemiscot County May 31, 1885 and died at the age of 75 years, three months and nineteen days. He had lived in the Cooter community all of his life.
Funeral services were held in the Yarbro Baptist Church Sunday, September 22 at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Vaughn officiating. John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at No. 8 Cemetery.
Survivors of Mr. Ash are a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Tart of Blytheville; a son, Floyd Ash of Yarbro; a sister, Mrs. Clara McKay of the Oak Ridge community, a brother, George McKay of Fort Worth, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Note: The brother mentioned in Fort Worth is actually George Ash, not McKay.

Headstone has year of birth as 1882, which would have made him 75 years old at time of passing. 1900 census also shows 1882, which is correct. His death certificate and obituary both say 1885 but that is when his younger brother, George, was born.
