Stephen Slocum was one of eleven children of Giles Slocum*(1750-1826) and Susanna (Brownell) Slocum (1754-1803), and my Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather.

Stephen Slocum married Mary FISH (daughter of John FISH and Elizabeth COOK) 17 Nov 1803, in Portsmouth, RI.

Stephen and Mary (Fish) Slocum had eleven (11) children that I can find, so far, of which my Gr-Gr-Grandmother, Susannah Brownell (Slocum) Grinnell was one.

We have Stephen's death notice, which was pasted onto the inside cover of one of two SLOCUM family bibles which have been passed down thru the years. (See the picture at right).

* Stephen is the name that breaks the chain of "Giles Slocum" in my family line... Starting at Stephen's father, my line descends from six generations of "Giles Slocum"'s, culminating with "Giles Slocum", who was born in England in 1623, and died in Portsmouth, RI in 1683. [Stephen DID have a brother named Giles(who married Mary Gould), so the chain continued to a 7th generation, but from what I have been able to find of the children that Giles (7) had, it doesn't appear that he continued the tradition....]

The following is an excerpt from the book "The History of the Slocums, Slocumbs, and Slocombes, Vol I" by Dr Elihu Slocum: (the long-time standing, tho not entirely infallible, genealogical study of the Slocum lineages, published in 1882)......
