Charleston--William J. "Bill" Smith, 73, died May 14, 1995, at his home.
Born July 10, 1921, near East Prairie, son of the late Aaron Dellon and Gracie Pauline Harr Smith, he lived most of his life in Mississippi county, where he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church in East Prairie.
On December 20, 1968, he married Chattie B. Johnson Smith who survives of the home.
Other survivors include his step-mother, Helen Melton of East Prairie: four sons, James Smith, Donald Smith, and Roy Smith of Charleston and Robert Smith of Bardwell, Ky; one daughter Kathy Patrick of East Prairie, two step-sons William Stinnett of Victorville, Calif., and Steve Stinnett of Niland, Calif., one step-daughter Becky Mannings of Alton, Ill., four brothers, Thomas Smith of St. Clair Shores, Mich., James Smith of Roy, Mich., Aaron Smith of Heber, Calif.,Bobby Smith of Class Valley, Calif.,two sisters; Ruth Harrison of Chino, Calif., and Betty Morrison of McClure,Ill., and 33 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Two sisters also preceded him in death.
Freinds may call after 5p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Russell Knauer of Sikeston will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
