Clyde Baldes

Clyde Baldes, 79, of Greenfield died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1989, at his residence.

He was born in Wrights on April 27, 1909, son of the late Peter C. and Cora Prather Baldes. He married Louise Wollenweber in Jacksonville on July 24, 1944, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Koster of Carrollton and Janet Liesenfelt of White Hall; three grandchildren; and a sister, Lela Smith of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Baldes was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Fitzsimmons Post 225 for 42 years, member of Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695, ASCS for 19 years, chairman of the Board of Review for six years, member of Greenfield Elevator Board for six years, Hickory Grove Cemetery Board, Wrights Township Board, precinct committeeman and member of the Greenfield Sportsman's Club.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield, with burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Wrights. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Friday. The American Legion Fizsimmons Post 225 conducted military rites at the cemetery.

Casket bearers were Gary Dorsey, Richard and Ben Goode, Bob Pembrook, Jack Walker, John Albrecht, Tom Benz and Jay Seymoure. Carole Griswold was organist. Vocalists were Bob and Lois Pembrook.

Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Memorial Flagpole Fund.
