An affectionate wife, and a loving mother, faithful friend, she was beloved by all who knew her. She bore her long and painful illness with Christian patience and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus. Her loss is mourned by her husband, with whom she had lived for forty-eight years, and by four children and a large circle of relatives and friends."
In the same paper and page: "Card of Thanks. To the many friends who so generously rendered their assistance in the care of Mrs. Mahlon Sherd, during her last and fatal illness, and especially to the young ladies who tendered their aid, I desire to express my grateful thanks. Their Christian kindness will long be cherished in remembrance. Mrs. D. D. Marshall."
