Zachary D. "Big Red" Armstrong, age 17, resident of rural Shelby died unexpectedly Saturday October 10, 2009 in MedCentral Shelby Hospital.
Born February 17, 1992 in Shelby he had been a Shelby resident all his life. Zachary was a senior at Shelby High School, Class of 2010, where he served on the Senior Executive Committee and played baritone in the concert and marching band. He was a student of M. M. Utz School of Tae Kwon Do, where he currently held his dark blue belt and was just months away from attaining his black belt. He attended the Calvary Chapel Mansfield, where he was involved in the puppet ministry. Zachary was also a member of the 4-H Friends Club and looked forward to hunting with his father and loved all aspects of fireworks. Zachary was a tissue donor and had donated blood in the past.

(Green) Armstrong of Shelby, Gary R. and Shelley Armstrong of Ontario, Franklin D. and Nannie R. Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Pastor Bryan Schatzinger will officiate with interment to follow. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Wednesday one hour prior to funeral serivce. Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Whippet Band.
