When he was 13, he moved back to Janesville and in 1943, he joined the United States military and served as Warrent Officer. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Bette J. Brown and by 1960 the two had their own residence in Janesville and had 2 children with one on the way and many more in the following years. In 1973, Roy passed away from lung cancer. He was buried at Oakhill Cemetary in Janesville, Wisconsin.
