Maria married Gustaf Håkansson, whom she had met at a young age, on New Year's Eve 1908. They were blessed with 10 children, of whom 8 reached adulthood. They were resident of Gantofta in Helsingborg, where he drove a bus and Maria had a café. Maria lived to the remarkable age of 105, and Gustav died a year later at the age of 102. Both are buried together with one of their children, who died in 1941.
