He studied at Bucknell University, and earned degrees from West Chester State, Yale, and Temple Universities. During World War one, he was at Hampton Institute in Virginia, where he was supervisor of the academic program. In the 1920s, he went to Mandfield State Teachers College where for 22 years he was critic-supervisor of student teachers in science and geography. following his retirement in 1945, he moved his family to Towanda, where he wrote his story of farm life in North Orwell while he was growing up there in the 1890s. He returned to his boyhood family farm and had a tree farm.
